The Value of Having a College Soccer Recruiting Consultant (That Most Families Don’t Realize)
There is no argument that having a college soccer recruiting consultant is a luxury. While having a person who is knowledgeable in the space and has up to date insight into the recruiting process is not a necessity, it absolutely benefits players and their families IF they find the right person to help.
Club coaches and DOCs are also main players in the process and can be used as great resources, but they also have to accommodate entire teams and clubs, so giving individual or small group attention to players and families is a bit unrealistic.
A recruiting consultant, like myself, provides accountability, feedback, and communication guidance that saves families time, stress, and mistakes. I take a very personal approach and become a part of a player’s inner circle, often getting to know a LOT about families. I am often the first or second text or call when something good (or bad...) happens throughout a player’s soccer journey.
In addition, here is what I provide families:
Organization
This is the start of everything. Staying organized. The work that we do up front to get to know each other and keep up with communication, scheduling, outreach, feedback, and timelines is only beneficial if it is organized. Recruiting can get overwhelming very quickly, especially when players are balancing school, soccer, social lives, travel, and family commitments. Having everything in one place and having a plan makes the process much less stressful.
Structure
There is a process for everything. One of the biggest challenges for families is simply knowing what to do and when to do it. Every player’s recruiting journey is different, but there are still timelines, benchmarks, and steps that help players stay on track. Having structure helps players avoid falling behind or wasting time on things that are not important for their level or goals.
Accountability
Having someone to make sure you are doing what you need to be doing, and at the right times, is very important. I understand that you and your family are managing sports, school, events, travel, life, and other siblings’ commitments. We work together to find the best timelines for YOU. Sometimes players simply need someone checking in, keeping them focused, and helping them stay consistent throughout the process.
Feedback
I help you decipher the feedback you get from college coaches, whether that is before or after June 15th of your sophomore year if you are looking at D1 or D2 schools. There is definitely a way to tell how interested coaches are. I help families understand what feedback is personal, what is generic, when a coach is truly prioritizing a player, and when it may be time to move on from a school.
Exposure
While I do not call or email college coaches directly, I work with players on how to maximize their exposure. That may look like figuring out which ID camps are best to attend, what tournaments are worth the investment, how to communicate effectively with coaches, and how to build realistic target school lists. Exposure is not about contacting hundreds of schools. It is about being strategic and intentional.
Communication
Communication is one of the most important parts of recruiting, and one of the areas where players and families struggle the most. I help players learn how to communicate professionally and confidently with college coaches while still sounding like themselves. From emails and text messages to phone calls and campus visits, learning how to communicate the right way can make a huge difference.
Transferable Life Skills
One of the most overlooked parts of the recruiting process is how many life skills players develop along the way. Time management, communication, professionalism, organization, resilience, and accountability are all things that will benefit players far beyond soccer. The recruiting process teaches players how to advocate for themselves and prepare for the next stage of life.
At the end of the day, a recruiting consultant is not just about helping players get exposure. It is about helping families navigate a stressful and emotional process with more clarity, structure, and confidence.
Every family’s journey is different, which is why I believe personalized support matters so much. If you are feeling overwhelmed, unsure where to start, or simply want guidance throughout the process, I would love to connect and see if I can help.
