College Soccer Recruiting: What Gives Me The Right?

To kick off this blog - I want to give a little bit of a background information to you (parent, player, college soccer enthusiast) on me, a former D1 college soccer player and pro, and what gives me the right to talk about the college recruiting process.

A little bit of background: I grew up on Long Island, and started playing soccer like most kids at the age of 7. I played for my town club team, Massapequa Power, until I was 17 years old and that is where I was fortunate enough to be recruited. I was looked at by a lot of local Long Island and NY schools, but through a connection, was put in contact with Robbie Church at Duke, where I accepted a roster spot and played for 4.5 years (redshirted my freshman year due to an ACL tear).

Following Duke, I was drafted into the NWSL, spent a couple months with the Boston Breakers, then signed a contract for Eskilstuna United in Sweden. Came back to the NWSL to play for Sky Blue FC, and finished out my playing career in The Netherlands for well known club, PSV Eindhoven.

While in The Netherlands, I had a major injury and decided that at the ripe age of 27, my body was no longer in any shape to continue to play at the level I was at. It was during that time that I was fortunate enough to get an assistant coaching position at Elon University. I spent a year at Elon, learning a ton in my new role, and then made the transition to head coach and strength and conditioning coach at Frankin College (a small D3 in Franklin, Indiana).

For 3 years, I led the way for the Grizzlies, learning more about myself, coaching, and managing than I ever had before.

Now, a handful of years later, with all of the knowledge I have learned and the connections I have, I am starting up KVB Soccer Consulting, a college soccer consulting and advising company, helping student-athletes navigate the recruiting process and actually enjoy it along the way.

Although not a current college coach, I am involved in the college soccer community and know first hand how to navigate the process.

I enjoy working with players looking to further their careers and play in college, and helping parents with the process as well. I have helped over 25 players play in college and look to continue to help many more.
